125-Mile Route: Going the Extra Mile

Bike enthusiasts will enjoy this two-day round trip adventure from Grant Park to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and back. There will be a picnic, campfire, and delicious meals. It’s the works.
Riders will begin this 2-day ride on Saturday August 17, 2013, at Grant Park (the north end) and enjoy a leisurely ride down to the Indiana Dunes. Upon arriving at the Indiana Dunes State Park, riders will enjoy a pasta dinner and hang out over a bonfire. On Sunday, participants will cycle back to Chicago.
LOCATION: North end of Grant Park (Randolph and the lakefront path)
The site is accessible via CTA:
1) Red Line – Monroe/State
2) Brown/Purple/Green/Pink/Orange Line – Madison/Wabash
3) Blue Line – Monroe/Dearborn
The most direct route is to walk east on Monroe and then north on the lakefront path until you arrive at DuSable Harbor. The walk is about 15 – 20 minutes.

Rider check-in begins at 7 am. The ride starts at 8 am.
Riders will bike to the Indiana Dunes State Park and camp under the stars, or stay in a hotel room (your choice).
On Sunday, participants will bike back to Grant Park.

SUPPORT:
The 125-mile route is fully supported. Climate Cycle will provide SAG vehicles, rest stops along the way with food, water, snacks, and restrooms. Ride marshals will provide basic bike maintenance. We are offering riders the option of transporting their camping gear to the Dunes (so you don’t have to bike with gear).
You’ll have a BBQ once you arrive at the Dunes, dinner in the evening, and breakfast before you head back to Chicago. Camping site costs are included, but if you prefer to stay at a hotel on Saturday night, that’s fine too.
